Childbirth Education
Flowers Hospital offers a variety of classes to help prepare mothers and families for the new addition to their family before and after birth. Childbirth education classes are offered free of charge to families delivering at Flowers Hospital. Register for one of these free classes by clicking the appropriate links below or by visiting our Events page.
Please note that while registration is not required, it is appreciated so we may adequately prepare for your class.
Classes are held in Classroom 1, located on the 4th floor of the North Tower in the Doctors Center building at Flowers Hospital.
Introduction to Childbirth; Breathing & Relaxation Techniques Class
This class is an overview of the childbirth process at Flowers Hospital. Conducted by our professional nursing staff, this program answers your questions related to pain control, the process and stages of labor and methods of delivery. We also teach relaxation techniques to effectively handle stress during labor. Comfort techniques for each stage of labor will be used to prepare the expectant mother and birth partner. This program may include a personal tour of our maternal/infant department and the opportunity to meet the staff who will be caring for you during your hospital visit. An anesthesiologist, if available, may be present to discuss options related to epidural pain management.

Parent Preparation Class
This class is designed to offer recommendations and information in providing care for your newborn. A pediatrician and members of our nursery staff will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Fundamentals of Breastfeeding Class
Information is provided by our lactation counselor to assist you in making choices related to breast feeding and to help you get started. For your convenience, daytime and evening classes are available. For more information, call (334) 794-5000, ext. 1210.

Postpartum Class
This class is designed to help new mothers take care of themselves physically and emotionally throughout the changes they experience after the baby is born, to include breast engorgement, postpartum depression and hormonal changes. The class will also discuss the causes of discomfort and how these symptoms can be managed.
