Dothan, AL (August 1, 2013 ) – Flowers Hospital scored the highest overall safety rating in the state with a score of 67, on a new list compiled by Consumer Reports. The next highest score was a 58. Flowers was evaluated on several key measures that support patient safety. Our rating is based on data regarding our Patient Outcomes (avoiding infections, readmissions, complications, and adverse events by surgical patients), Patient Experience, and Hospital Practices.
Consumer Report’s scores come from scientifically based data on patient experience and outcomes gathered from public sources. Consumer Reports collects all the information and summarizes it in an easy-to-interpret format.
“Flowers Hospital has always been committed to the highest quality standards. Achieving this level of excellence in patient safety reflects our dedication to delivering outstanding service and quality to the community that we serve. We would like to acknowledge our outstanding physicians, devoted employees, and loyal volunteers who work together to fulfill our mission of caring for patients as family,” states Suzanne Woods, Flowers Hospital President/CEO.
Flowers Hospital’s goal is for the patient to receive excellent medical care with a compassionate personal touch. To meet this objective, Flowers currently has performance improvement teams that work to improve care through evidence based core measures initiatives as well as improving the overall patient experience through increased communication with our patients.
“Hospitals were the first industry to provide quality data to the public and have been doing so for more than a decade. We believe that hospitals should be transparent with their quality and safety information so that communities know the efforts hospitals are making to improve care. Flowers Hospital has always worked to ensure that patients receive the right care at the right time in the right place. We are proud of this score and feel it reflects our ongoing efforts,” said Amy Butler, Chief Quality Officer.
