Flowers Hospital Announces Addition of Internal Medicine Graduate Medical Education Program

DOTHAN, AL — Flowers Hospital is proud to announce the addition of an internal medicine graduate medical education (GME) program, marking a significant milestone for the hospital as it works to continue to enhance the healthcare environment in the Wiregrass area.
The program has received its initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and is a three-year training program that will prepare newly-graduated physicians for careers in internal medicine. Resident physicians will rotate through a variety of medical specialties in inpatient and outpatient settings to gain experience managing a broad range of internal medicine conditions and work closely with experienced faculty to develop essential skills for leadership in the field.
More than 2,400 applications were received for the hospital’s inaugural class, and all available positions in the program were filled with physicians from diverse backgrounds who bring a wealth of knowledge, skill sets and enthusiasm to the program.
“We are thrilled to welcome our first class of internal medicine residents to Flowers Hospital,” said Russell Bedsole, M.D., program director. “Their arrival represents years of planning and hard work, and we are confident these residents will significantly contribute to our hospital and community. We look forward to the positive impact this program will have on patient care in the Wiregrass.”
