FDA MQSA Inspection at Flowers Hospital
4/15/2013
Dothan, AL (April 2013) – Flowers Hospital recently underwent an FDA inspection required by the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). This 1992 act established national quality standards for mammography. The MQSA requires that, in order to lawfully provide mammography services, all facilities must be accredited.
The FDA letter of inspection results stated, “Your facility has received an ‘All items in compliance’ rating, and we congratulate you on this outstanding accomplishment. We commend you for the effort and attention you and your staff have put into developing exceptional operating systems.”
The inspection compared specific items in six major areas to required standards: equipment performance, technologist’s quality control, medical physicist survey, personnel qualification, medical reports and outcome audits. Commenting on the accomplishment, Radiologist Dr. Scott Bolton said, "Congratulations to the staff of the Flowers Breast Health Center on yet another successful FDA inspection. The consistent performance of the Breast Health Center is a prime reason they have earned the American College of Radiology Breast Center of Excellence designation. It is a privilege to be able to work with such a dedicated group of professionals."
The Breast Health Center’s dedicated employees and Board Certified Radiologists are committed to excellence in breast imaging. The American College of Radiology has also awarded Flowers Hospital accreditation in mammography, breast MRI, breast ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy.
“We are proud of our Radiologists and Breast Health Center employees for receiving outstanding results during this inspection. Most importantly, our results demonstrate the quality care and concern shown by our employees and medical staff for the patients whom we are privileged to serve,” said Suzanne Woods, Chief Executive Officer.
