FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dr. Robert Hagler Wins Award
DOTHAN, AL, (September 15, 2014)– Dr. Robert M. Hagler has been selected as a recipient of the 2014 Martha Myers Role Model Award by the Medical Alumni Association, University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Hagler was honored at the White Coat Ceremony on August 17, 2014, where the first-year University of Alabama medical students are presented with their white coats marking the beginning of their journey to become doctors.
The Martha Myers Role Model Award was started by the Medical Alumni Association in 2007 to honor the memory of Dr. Martha Myers of Montgomery, a 1971 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She lost her life in 2002 to a gunman while serving as a medical missionary in a Yemen hospital where she had spent 24 years as a physician. The award is intended to honor Dr. Myers and inspire generations of medical students by highlighting the accomplishments of physician alumni whose lives epitomize the ideal of service to their communities, their profession and patient care.
Dr. Hagler is a 1980 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he completed his residency in 1984 and has since been affiliated with Women’s HealthCare of Dothan and Flowers Hospital.
He and Diana, his wife of 42 years, have three daughters and two grandchildren. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church in Dothan.
“To practice medicine is an honor and privilege. We strive to keep the best interest of the patient at the forefront of our every action,” said Dr. Hagler. “Being trusted by those at their most vulnerable times is truly humbling.”
