8/21/2025
DOTHAN, Ala. (August 21, 2025) – Flowers Hospital recently hosted a specialized training seminar for emergency medical services (EMS) personnel focused on the management of pelvic trauma, a critical topic in emergency care where rapid recognition and treatment can significantly improve patient outcomes.
More than 50 EMS professionals representing 15 different EMS organizations across the Wiregrass participated in the training. Orthopedic trauma surgeon Dr. Daniel Joiner shared clinical insights, best practices and real-world applications designed to strengthen the continuum of care from the field to the hospital.
“Strong collaboration between EMS teams and hospital providers is essential in trauma care,” says Dan Cumbie, Flowers Hospital chief nursing officer. “By investing in education and working with other professionals in our community, we can help ensure patients receive the highest level of care when it matters most.”
Dr. Joiner emphasized the importance of training and teamwork in these complex cases. “Pelvic trauma can be one of the most challenging injuries first responders face,” Dr. Joiner says. “When EMS personnel are equipped with the knowledge to recognize and manage these injuries quickly, it not only saves time but also can save lives.”
Flowers Hospital is proud to work with EMS agencies to provide continuing education opportunities that enhance clinical skills, promote collaboration and improve emergency response throughout the Wiregrass.
Dr. Joiner is an independent member of the Flowers Hospital medical staff and one of 18 orthopedic surgeons delivering quality care.
