There may come a time when knee or hip pain reduces the quality of your life. Everyday activities, such as walking, shopping, or housework can become difficult or unbearable. Taking part in favorite hobbies such as golf or bowling may be a thing of the past because conservative measures like diet, exercise and medications no longer provide relief or alleviate your pain. If this is you, it may be time to consider joint replacement. Flowers Hospital has created a special program that brings together a team of surgeons with specially-trained nurses, therapists and technicians. Our goal is to provide seamless, coordinated care, and get you back to your favorite activities as soon as possible.
At The Joint Replacement Center (JRC) at Flowers Hospital, we know that you have a choice when it comes to where to have your procedure. Within our hospital, we have created a special area just for the care of our knee and hip replacement patients. No hospital gowns for this crowd - patients will get to wear their own clothes! A family member will be encouraged to become their coach and participate in group activities, meals and other special events. Exercise and therapy is also provided in a group setting, so that our patients can support, encourage and connect with each other while they recover. These new connections are designed to enhance the healing process.
Led by the Joint Replacement Navigator, Brandi Epperson, each member of the JRC staff has a positive attitude, motivational skills and a desire to provide outstanding service. In addition, they have been specifically trained to provide comprehensive clinical care for patients undergoing these important procedures. We have the same great physicians, the same great nurses and offer the same great care, but we have a new program that encompasses wellness, early mobility, family involvement, education, personal responsibility, group interaction and minimally invasive and rapid-recovery techniques for better outcomes following joint replacement surgery.
With surgery and post-op care, it is now common for many patients to be able to go home from the hospital after two or three days. If you have both knees replaced at the same time, the stay can be a day or two longer. Of course, each patient is different, but the goal should be for you to recover in the comfort and privacy of your own home as soon as possible.
