If You Are Having Surgery
Your physician will explain the details of your operation and will answer any questions you may have. You should have received a Surgical Experience Patient Information Guide from the office at the time your surgery was scheduled. If you did not receive this information, please ask your nurse to provide you with a Flowers Hospital Surgical Guide.
The day before your surgery, your diet may be restricted, and depending on the operation, you may not be able to drink anything for several hours before surgery. You will be given a hospital gown to wear and instructed to remove all make-up, nail polish, and jewelry. Some form of sedation may be administered shortly before you are taken into the Operating Room. Intravenous fluids may be started and other precautions for surgery may be completed.
The Anesthesia Department is under the direction of anesthesiologists, assisted by certified nurse anesthetists. An anesthesiologists or a nurse anesthetist will visit you prior to your surgery to answer any questions regarding the type of anesthesia to be used.
After your operation you will go to the Recovery Room where you will be monitored by specially trained registered nurses. Visitors are not allowed in this area.
