Pain Management
Your Rights and Responsibilities
You have the right to receive quality patient care, which includes appropriate assessment, management, and education of pain regardless of your race, creed, sex, nationality, or sources of payment for care. Your responsibilities include participating with the healthcare team by providing information about your health and medical history. You and your family also have the responsibility of participating with the healthcare team to design a pain management plan for you.
Pain Management Plan
Each individual has different perceptions and responses to pain. The healthcare professionals at Flowers Hospital understand that each patient is unique and deserving of compassionate care. The healthcare team will be assessing your pain level when you are admitted and throughout your hospitalization. The team will be asking you to rate your pain on a 0-10 pain scale (see pain scales). These scales help the healthcare team determine the effectiveness of the pain management plan.
The healthcare team will be asking you to set a pain goal. Your pain goal is a level of discomfort that you feel will not hinder your daily activities. Any questions you have about your pain management plan should be directed to your nurse or physician. The healthcare team values your partnership in determining an appropriate and effective pain management plan during your hospitalization and for your continuing recovery after discharge.
