Flowers Hospital Announces 2010 Teen Volunteer Scholarship Winners
Dothan, AL (July 2010) – Flowers Hospital recently presented Katie Sorrells and Heather Maddox with a $1,000 college scholarship to be applied to their college of choice.
Katie Sorrells graduated from Geneva County High School and plans to attend Troy University in the fall, where she will major in social work and minor in criminal justice and pre-law. Katie has been a volunteer at Flowers Hospital for five years and has accumulated more than 850 volunteer hours. Over those five years, she has volunteered in the Education Department, Recovery Room, 4 South, Pediatrics, Medical Records, Gift Shop, and Information Desk.
Heather Maddox graduated from Rehobeth High School and plans to attend Wallace Community College where she would like to pursue a career in nursing. Heather has been a volunteer in the Radiology Department at Flowers Hospital for the past two years and has performed 727 hours of volunteer work.
“It was my pleasure to present two of our teen volunteers with scholarships,” says Rhonda Andrews, Volunteer Coordinator. “Our teen volunteers donate their time after school and while on summer break to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and I am proud we are able to offer a scholarship program.”
Each year, Flowers Hospital offers teen volunteers an opportunity to apply for a scholarship. The recipients are selected based on their grade point average, accumulated volunteer hours, and a one-page essay.
