Volunteer Programs
If you are looking for a meaningful way to help others in our community...
Consider becoming an adult or teen volunteer. Flowers Hospital offers many opportunities to channel your talents by providing special services to patients and visitors.
Each volunteer makes a unique contribution to Flowers Hospital by offering their time, intellect, energy and skills. Volunteers provide extra services which supplement the basic functions of our professional staff, adding to the comfort, care, and happiness of our patients and making their stay as pleasant as possible.
Volunteer assignments at Flowers Hospital are made on an individual basis, taking into consideration the hospital's needs and the volunteer's goals. Many volunteers welcome the opportunity to apply their talents in fields different from their work experience. Our program is flexible, so a niche can be found appropriate to each volunteer's interest.
Assignment areas include:
Information:
Volunteers man the information desk informing visitors of patient room numbers, locations of various offices, etc.
Gift Shop:
Volunteers operate the gift shop, providing convenient shopping for patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
Mail & Flower Delivery:
Volunteers bring good cheer to patients by delivering mail and flowers.
Nursing Units:
Volunteers provide assistance to patients under the direction of nurses. Areas in which they may assist include transporting patients to various departments for treatment or testing, assisting visitors, sitting with patients when family members are not available, and serving drinks and meal trays as requested. Volunteers are always helpful in Pediatrics with play therapy for the children providing a break for parents.
Hospital Departments:
Volunteers assist with preparation in examination rooms by keeping stretchers clean and freshly made, restocking linens as well as supplies for each room, picking up supplies from other departments as needed, assisting in transport of patient to other departments and assisting the secretaries with general office duties.
Teen Volunteers:
Flowers Hospital's teen volunteer program offers young people the opportunity to learn first hand about the field of healthcare and the services provided and may lead to a decision about career direction. Through our program, teenagers gain the satisfaction of community service by acquiring new friendships and skills.
Volunteers have played an important role at Flowers Hospital since our program was established in 1983, contributing thousands of hours of service to our patients and visitors. They continue to graciously give their time to enhance the services provided at Flowers Hospital.
Volunteers receive special recognition throughout the year for their service to the hospital. Most volunteers, however, are also rewarded by the inner satisfaction that comes from helping others.
